Synopsis

In the theocratic Republic of Gilead, formerly the United States, a woman known only as Offred serves as a Handmaid, forced to bear children for the ruling elite in a society that has stripped women of all rights. Through her fragmented memories of a lost world and her harrowing present, she reveals the mechanisms of totalitarian control while secretly clinging to the hope of resistance and reunion with her family.
