Synopsis

Young Juan Rico enlists in the Mobile Infantry of the Terran Federation and undergoes brutal boot camp training before being sent into combat against the alien Arachnids. Through his experiences from raw recruit to officer, the novel explores themes of civic duty, the nature of military service, and a society where full citizenship must be earned through federal service.
